Sometimes, Bible study and Bible reading can appear overwhelming. Sure, there are the exciting bits - the stories about Jesus and the apostles, the stories from the Old Testament, the beautiful psalms so full of emotion, the proverbs so full of everyday wisdom. To name a few. We love such things, don't we.
But then, there are the more difficult bits. Take for example the prophecies of Revelation. In Revelation we meet a Lamb who is also a Lion. Isn't that strange? And then there are beasts, a dragon, and a woman clothed with the sun. What do all these things mean?
Then, there are are some scary parts. Prophecies about destruction and world wide calamities. Will these things really happen?
And then there is the promise that Jesus will return with the armies of heaven. Now, that will be an event of global proportions. Nothing like it has ever happened before. Is it something we should look forward to? Or does it scare you a little? Or maybe a lot?
And then there are bits that appear downright boring. Long lists of names that are very different to the names we are used to, about people who lived thousands of years ago; information about cities that no longer exist; and regulations about what the priests and Levites should and should not do that, at first sight, may appear irrelevant to us.
And, of course, there is the question of seeing the bigger picture. Yes, the stories are nice. But what is the overall purpose and message of the Bible? Is it trying to tell me something? If yes, what is it?
If you want to know the Bible better, you are in the right place. We at www.bible-study.info are committed to digging deeper into the Bible, endeavoring to understand it better, and sharing our findings with others.
We do not have all the answers. Only God does. But years of study and prayer has given us insights which I believe you will find very useful.
Keep in mind that a good student of the Bible studies with an open mind, because there might always be something new to learn or understand.
Some people think, "my pastor said this, therefore it is right."
Or, "my church has believed this for generations, therefore it is right."
Or, "most people believe this, therefore it is right."
Or, "I think I have the answers, therefore I don't need to hear contrary opinions; only train to debunk them."
People who have such an attitude will not get far when it comes to real Bible study. They think they have the answers and therefore there is not much room for growth. Imagine a glass that is full of water. Can you add anything else into it? Not really.
The reality is that people often get it wrong. So if we rely on the opinions of others, without checking things out for ourselves, we might simply end up following human opinions rather than the Word of God.
Remember Galileo Galilei? The famous Italian astronomer who was one of the first to observe that the earth revolves around the sun, rather than the other way around as almost everybody believed in his time?
If Galileo and a few others went by what everybody else believed, maybe we would still think that the sun revolves around the earth! But no, he was keen to study things for himself, and in the process revolutionized the way we understand the universe!
An open mind is essential for spiritual grown.
The name of our group is Berean Believers. There is a reason why we chose this name.
During his 2nd missionary journey, around the year AD 50, the Apostle Paul visited the city of Berea, located in northern Greece. When he preached, the people listened carefully. And took note of what he was saying.
And then they did something very important. They opened their Bibles to check if what Paul was saying was actually correct. Yes, the humble Bereans would not allow themselves to be swayed into anything just because a famous preacher like Paul said it. They wanted to check everything out for themselves.
We call ourselves Berean Believers because we endeavor to test every teaching by the Bible. If you find anything in this website that you believe is unbiblical, feel free to let us know and we will listen very carefully to what you have to say.
And we encourage every visitor to this website to become a Berean Believer. Don't believe what you read until you first check it out if it agrees with the Bible.
To those who take the Word of God, the Bible, seriously, a promise is offered. Listen to the words the Apostle Paul sent to his good friend and fellow believer, Timothy.
"From childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings [i.e., the Bible], which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 3:15).
And then he adds: "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God[b] may be complete, equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Did you get that? Look again at the words in bold. Bible study with an open mind can make a person "wise for salvation." Wow, that is a beautiful promise.
Bible study will make you wise because the Bible is inspired ("breathed out") by God and will make a person mature and ready to do good things.
So some and join us on a beautiful journey of Bible study and discovery. It is truly worth it!
